What Are Gigapixels?
A gigapixel (GP) equals one billion pixels. While most consumer cameras capture images in the megapixel range (millions of pixels), gigapixel images are created by stitching hundreds or thousands of photos together, or by using specialized sensors.
Gigapixel imagery is used in satellite mapping (Google Earth), museum art digitization, astronomical photography, and ultra-high-resolution panoramas where you can zoom into extraordinary detail.
Formula: Gigapixels = (Width × Height) ÷ 1,000,000,000
