How Pixels to CM Conversion Works

To convert between pixels and physical size you need the pixel density (PPI — pixels per inch). One inch = 2.54 cm. Formulas used:

Pixels to CM
cm = pixels ÷ PPI × 2.54
CM to Pixels
pixels = cm ÷ 2.54 × PPI
Live Example at 96 PPI:
100 px
2.65 cm

Examples: at 96 PPI, 100 px ≈ 2.65 cm. At 300 PPI, 100 px ≈ 0.85 cm.

PPI vs DPI

PPI = pixels per inch (digital image resolution). DPI = dots per inch (printer dots). Use PPI to convert pixels to physical sizes; printers use DPI which may not equal PPI exactly depending on the print technology.

Is 1000 px big enough?

For web images 1000 px is often fine. For printing you typically want higher pixel dimensions at your target PPI (e.g., for a 10×15 cm print at 300 PPI you'd need ~1181×1772 px).

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pixels is 1 cm?
It depends on PPI. Formula: pixels = cm ÷ 2.54 × PPI. Example: at 96 PPI, 1 cm ≈ 0.03 px (≈ 37.8 px).
What is 4.5 cm * 3.5 cm in pixels?
Multiply each dimension by PPI/2.54. At 96 PPI: 170 × 132 px (rounded to nearest integer).
What is 1920x1080 resolution in cm?
At 96 PPI: width ≈ 50.8 cm, height ≈ 28.58 cm.
Can I convert pixels to cm?
Yes. You must know the PPI (pixels per inch). Use the converter above or the formula cm = pixels ÷ PPI × 2.54.
Is 1000 pixels big enough for a photo?
Depends on usage. For screens it's usually fine. For high-quality prints, aim for larger pixel dimensions and higher PPI (e.g., 300 PPI).
What is the difference between DPI and PPI?
PPI is digital pixels per inch. DPI is printer dots per inch. Printers may use many dots to render one pixel.
What does px mean in image size?
px means pixel — the basic digital image element. Width and height in px are counts of pixels horizontally and vertically.
Does the conversion change based on my screen resolution?
Yes. Physical size depends on the device's PPI (or device pixel ratio). For precise physical measurements use the display's actual PPI or the printer's intended PPI.
